GLUT4 is the facilitated glucose transporter expressed exclusively in adipocytes and muscle cells, and is also known as the “insulin-responsive“ glucose transporter. GLUT4 translocates from an ill-defined intracellular compartment to the plasma membrane in response to insulin.
